Somers Education Foundation (SEF)
The Somers Education Foundation (SEF), established in 1994, is a not-for-profit, tax-exempt organization comprised of parents, school representatives and community members.
SEF supports Somers schools by raising funds for specific student and teacher-initiated projects that enrich the educational experience and are not funded by the district’s budget. As of February 2012 we have cumulatively awarded more than $850,000 across 270 grants and scholarships . Grants have been used in a variety of ways, from purchasing “SmartBoards” and computer/audio-visual equipment, to uniforms for the fife and drum corps, to funding diversity programs. We recently awarded our largest grant ever, totaling $60,000, to help fund the construction of the Power Libraries Learning Labs in all four Somers schools. Five SEF scholarships, based on leadership and merit, are awarded annually to graduating Somers High School seniors.
